As reported by CNNMoney.com, Americans drove 12.2 billion miles less, or 4.7% less, in June than they did during June 2007, according to data released today from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Since a decline in miles driven began last November, we've logged 53.2 billion fewer miles than the same period one year ago, an 8-month dive that surpasses the decline in driving seen from 1971 to 1980, when Americans were pummled by the Arab oil embargo, recession and high inflation.
