If you missed it, USA Today has the recent story of paralegal Karen Krindel of Rochester, New York, who was fired in November 2006 because she didn't play by new rules that banned smoking breaks. Krindel applied for unemployment benefits and received about $3,000. But a state Labor Department board later rejected that, arguing she was fired for misconduct and misrepresented the reason for her getting the boot.
Best part of the article: Krindel argued that banning smoking breaks is unfair to smokers who use breaks to re-energize and become "less crabby".
